Abu Dhabi Development: A Cool City?

TDIC is a private organization which is owned by Abu Dhabi tourism authority. Their main purpose is to increase the tourism and business visitors in Abu Dhabi through the next ten years. The project embraces Abu Dhabi heritage culture while keeping its natural resources.

Shangri-La Hotel, Qatryat Al Beri is a Mediterranean five-star resort hotel and Spa, sits along a one-kilometer stretch of picturesque beachfront. The total cost of the project has touched Dh.1 billion and the hotel will be officially launched in September. It features 214 luxurious rooms and suites all with balconies making it an ideal setting to view stunning sunsets, the sea and traditional Arabic domes and minarets. It is Located between Maqta and Mussafah Bridge, Abu Dhabi, only ten minute drive from the Abu Dhabi International Airport and 15 minutes away from the City centre. It includes 161 serviced apartments units, 7 serviced villas, 163 executives’ apartments, Chi spa and beauty centre, hotel and beach kiosks and souks.

This is one of the main developments that will not harm the environment and supports greenery by keeping its natural resources. In my opinion, I think these developments would not harm the environment, but encourage other countries to follow the same procedure in order for them to live a better life. The governments in Abu Dhabi are getting expert people from abroad to build cool cities in the future. It seems Abu Dhabi will be a cool city and it would only be beneficial for the city.

Cool Cities

Cool cities are the latest green technology in transport, urban development and architecture with a low carbon footprint. It brings together united technology of the SDJC into one city for Sustainable Urban Development and architecture for gulf. The Japan and Gulf States Partnership are joined together to build it. The three types of public transportation that will be used in cool cities are monorail, hybrid cars and solar ships. The cool city also consists of various zones such as the Business/Public zone, Residential zone, Rural/Sports zone, Resort zone, Jatropha forest and Powered plants farms.

In cool cities, buildings would take the wind path and the vast amount of trees and water would reduce the heat in the cool cities. Carbon dioxide that is expected to be reduced by eco-towers is 50% and by the eco-residential is 30% combining them together they would be reducing 80%.Overall, the percentage of reduction of carbon dioxide emissions that was mentioned in the video is 60%.

In my opinion, I think the cool cities are a great Idea implemented in Abu Dhabi. This would reduce the risks of global warming and be a great place for tourist spot. Countries around the world should try to adapt the same idea for them to live in a better environment.

Carbon Footprint

Carbon footprint is the measuring of carbon dioxide in the air produced by humans. For example , the burning up of fossil fuels which create gases by heating or electricity.

I measured my carbon footprint by taking the quizzes on these 2 websites : http://footprint.wwf.org.uk & http://www.myfootprint.org/ . I then calculated both numbers and divided them by two which gave me a score of 6.775 number of earths .It showed me through pie graphs and line graphs the perecentage of each consumption i used globally (travel or food) and compared them with each other.

A couple of ways to reduce carbon footprints are easy and simply to follow.First, one has to take the quiz on the website and see how much he is consuming to be aware of he situation.Second, using better alternatives of electricity such as renewable sources to save electicity for example using fluorescent light bulbs instead of the old bulbs that use a lot of energy.Next, not wasting energy would reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air for example, switching off the lights when not needed.Last, buying organic food would reduce too the amount of carbon dioxide produced.

Analysis of Inconvenient truth

Many people have different views about the Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient truth".I think the movie was good and people should have a look on what Al Gore thinks about global warming and how he supports his ideas through it.

I think Al Gore was a really good speaker as seen on the movie. He withdraws the people’s attention and convinces us that global warming will affect the future generation. The message in the movie was clear, easily understood and direct. Al Gore ideas were presented in the correct order and tried to level with the people by showing them a part of his life to them. In addition, the set of the movie and the scenery was beautiful. The movie all in all was actually really interesting especially when you see Al gore’s speech.

In conclusion , I think people should watch the movie because it’s worth watching and it would make the people aware of what has happened in the world in the past and what is happening in the world today.

Summary

Al Gore was running for president in the USA with bush. He is into helping the environment and was talking about global warming by trying to go around the world to spread out the crisis that is affecting the planet earth. He also talked about how global warming would affect the future generation and what humans should do to stop it from happening. In addition, he also supports his ideas with facts as seen on his presentation with graphs and images. In the movie, he withdraws the people’s attention and makes them feel motivated to help stop the causes. As seen to, he reflects his life in the movie which shows a different side of him , for example how his father used to have a farm and breeds angus cows that made him win for the best farmer and how upset he was watching his son's death in the hospital after being hit by a car.

Solar Energy

Solar energy is the light and radiant heat from the Sun that influences Earth's climate and weather and sustains life.It is known that solar energy can provide many things for use for example, heat engine or photovoltaic means, daylighting and space heating in passive solar, hot water, thermal energy for cooking, and high temperature process heat for industrial purposes.

Some advantages of solar energy are :
  1. Heat water – for use in homes or buildings.

  2. Heat spaces – inside greenhouses or homes.

Some disadvantages of solar energy are

  1. The amount of sunlight that arrives at the earth's surface is not constant(weather conditions).

  2. A large surface area is required to collect the energy at a useful rate.

Causes of Global Warming

In the past, people enjoyed the way of life .The temperature, oxygen and carbon dioxide were all stable, but as we can see today things have changed. Global warming is mainly what has caused an effect in our lives. It is causing a lot of problems and has changed the way of living. Some of the main causes of global warming are pollution, deforestation and burning of fossil fuels.

Some of the causes to global warming have effects to on our lives which has a risk factor.Firstly, pollution is one of the main causes of global warming. It damages the environment and ruins the life of our society including animals. Another cause is deforestation. Men cut down trees and take over land which makes the animals lose their habitats and this might make them extinct. Finally, the burning of fossil fuels around the world. This would have an effect on the ozone layer and would increase the levels of carbon dioxide which would lower the level of oxygen.

In conclusion, there are many ways we can stop global warming. This would benefit everyone and make our lives much easier. This would lead us living in a safe and healthy environment.

First Blog

I find blogging a really good way to communicate with people online. Some might have different opinions than others and they would comment on a certain post what they think about a certain post written. Blogs also helps us learn new information by reading and understanding what the writer is trying to say. In addition, it improves the English skills in writing by the person writing better and learns from his errors.

This is my first time to blog and I would like to share my life with everyone.
My Name Is Mohammed and I got enrolled into HCT 2 semesters ago and before I entered I did a challenge exam which I succeeded in. My goal is majoring into I.T field because I find it interesting. This semester I’m taking 5 subjects: 2 English classes, 2 computer classes and a business class. Wish everyone best of luck and success.
